BURGERTIME (1982)
Developer: Bally Midway - World Record Hi-Score: 11,512,500
Burgertime is a classic video game from 1982, created by Data East and released by themselves in conjunction with Bally Midway. With original stencil painted side artwork, it is of the same time year as Pacman, considered the ‘golden era’ of arcade video games. You play as chef Peter Pepper (who appeared in the films Wreck It Ralph and Pixels) and the aim of the game is to complete or ‘build’ all the burgers on the screen. You do this by navigating the maze of ladders and platforms to run across the individual components of the burgers. They fall down into place, until each burger is created, and the level is complete.
The enemies are a combination of other foods, hot dog, egg and pickle. You can destroy them by either using your limited pepper or time it so that enemies are underneath, or on top of the falling burger item and you will gain extra points. Using your pepper should be the last resort!
There are 6 levels to this game, which sounds short, but it is certainly more challenging than it seems. It is a point driven game so play with this in mind and ensure you collect the bonus coffee and ice cream that sporadically appears on the levels to help you climb the leader board. A fun title, suitable for all the family.
