House of the Dead (1996)

Older brother to the classic House of the Dead 2, this stands on its own grounds as a trail blazing shooter. Built with the Virtua Cop engine Sega wanted to make a kick ass zombie game with branching paths and replayability. Taking on the role of either Rogan or the infamous “G” you have to blast your way through the undead hordes to rescue Sophie. But simply finishing the game is not enough… you must get above a certain score to get the true ending and reunite Rogan and Sophie!

Fun fact – in the ‘video game rage’ era Indianapolis state tried to use House of the Dead as evidence that video games were obscene. The ruling Judge though obviously fancied destroying some zombies and hurled their arguments out of court, and quite rightly too!
